Flakey | Crispy | Savoury
Cōng You Bing aka Scallion Pancake is one of those dishes I grew up ordering at restaurants whenever they had, they also happen to be one of my mom’s favorites which is why she showed me this trick to make them faster & easier
Although called pancake, they are actually a Chinese unleavened dough vs most pancakes which is made with a batter
Traditionally, they are prepared by making a flour/water dough which is rolled out with salt & scallions & then twisted & rolled to create layers almost like a western “pastry dough” or croissant
For someone like me who loves savory things, this is a super easy snack anytime but also as a great appetizer at parties or get-togethers!
These are delicious by themselves but you can definitely serve them with soy sauce, hot sauce or your favourite Asian dipping sauce!

Makes for 8
Ingredients
1 Pack Round Dumpling Wrappers
6 Scallions, finely chopped
Vegetable Oil
Salt to Taste
Directions
- On a work surface, lay 1 dumpling wrapper, brush with vegetable oil and sprinkle with 1/2 tsp of green onions and a pinch of salt. Do not worry if it’s not that even as the multiple layers of green onions will become even overall.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium-high heat with enough neutral cooking oil to coat the bottom.
- Fry each scallion pancake for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Serve immediately while hot and enjoy
